Privateer represented a significant milestone within the UN. Those who achieved this rank were typically entrusted with the responsibility of conducting basic training and initiating new recruits into the clan. It stood as a respected position, serving as a link between enlisted members and NCOs, and was bestowed upon those demonstrating the initial signs of potential.
Notably, this role encompassed two distinct visual variations. In the original version of Halo: Reach, the black background of this position led Rangers or AAIF members wearing it to be perceived as Sergeants. As a result, those wearing the steel variant needed to adjust their background to silver. This concern ceased to exist in Halo: MCC, thanks to a modification in the steel coloration on the leaderboard. |
Individuals elevated to the rank of Minor Corporal had demonstrated a commendable duration of service within the Clan, typically spanning approximately one month or more. The addition of a second chevron, later adorned with a gold hue upon attaining Major Corporal status, presented a distinct and visually evident evolution in their level of experience.
In the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Generations, higher ranks became less common, as promotions were generally harder to obtain. It was not uncommon to see branch leaders and sub-branch leaders hold Corporal positions or below during this period. |
The rank of Staff Sergeant was conferred upon individuals who exemplified genuine leadership potential. These individuals were typically seen assuming responsibility of clan lobbies and training sessions.
Warrant Sergeant was a late addition to the ranking system, serving as a buffer rank to make the Clan less 'top-heavy.' As the only gold-sheeted SNCO rank, its presence in lobbies was not unnoticed, though its authority was minimally different to that of a Staff Sergeant, merely signifying longer service. |
Lieutenants, freshly commissioned, were seasoned individuals equipped with the entirety of a Sergeant Major's experience, then some. This was the most prevalent officer position in UN history, with many careers never reaching further than it. Particularly in later generations, those who held this rank were typically involved in branch leadership and attended the Council.
The rank bore a resemblance to the Halo: 3 Lieutenant rank, a mark of the Clan's origins. |
Warrant Lieutenant served as a rung preceding the rank of Captain, particularly noticeable during the Clan's first generation. This period saw a higher concentration of officers, prompting the need for intermediary ranks like this. Among the variety of ranks, Warrant Lieutenant was one of the more unique ones, being distinctly fictitious.
Interestingly, this stood as one of the rare UN ranks featuring two distinct emblems, with the horizontal stripe eventually being discarded due to its lack of visual appeal. On the initial rank sheet, there are evident marks on this rank denoting the early alteration made to its appearance. |
Captains predominantly held organizational leadership positions, often overseeing sub-divisions or entire divisions, and attended the Council. At this juncture, these individuals commanded an elevated level of respect within the clan. Similar to the insignia of Captain in real-life militaries, this emblem sported twin bars, making it unmistakable.
|
Lieutenant Captain served as a transition point from junior to field officer status. Those occupying this position had demonstrated their competence as junior officers and were on a clear trajectory for promotion to the rank of Major, contingent on displaying further loyalty and experience. Notably, these individuals almost exclusively held divisional leadership roles; for instance, General JB172 held this position while leading the UNA3.
|
Major undeniably marked a pivotal juncture in one's UN journey, signifying a near-unparalleled level of commitment and loyalty from the incumbent. The white, five-point star made Majors unmistakable in Clan lobbies. Commanding immense respect and authority, they almost always served as branch Commanding Officers.

The presence of the Warrant Officer, Lieutenant Officer, and Major Officer ranks within this clan's hierarchy is an anomaly that distinguishes it from conventional structures. Placed between the ranks of Major and Colonel, this arrangement deviates from the typical progression seen in other organizations.
Throughout all generations of the Clan, these ranks remained exceedingly rare due to their high status. |
Grand Marshal has been likened to a General in all but title - a comparison that holds true. Up until the end of 4th Generation, the distinction of holding this rank was reserved for just one individual: Runehawk11, who wielded a blend of political and military influence tamed only by the Council and President.
In the 7th and 8th Generations under iSlayer, the position was later awarded to Sgt Dornan and spitting snail out of respect for their former leadership of the Clan. Notably, spitting snail held the position whilst also serving as the Vice President. |
It was exceedingly rare to see the ranks from Brigadier General to General, especially after the UN transitioned onto Halo: Reach. There is early evidence from Halo: 3 of them being held by ii GoTxSkiLLZz and iTz DW (see below).
Supreme General was the only grade of General to be seen post-Halo: 3. Prior to the introduction of Vice President and General-in-Chief, it was the highest rank an individual could obtain, bar Clan Leader itself. |
These positions were created in the latter stage of the UN's lifetime to help facilitate a new style of governance, in which the President and VP would manage political affairs, while the "GiC" would act as essentially the Commander-in-Chief of the clan's entire military.
Notably, Vice President initially utilized the same emblem as the Major-General rank, although later white wings were adopted. In the 8th Generation, "GiC" was replaced by the term "General Commander", though both positions functioned the same. Post-8th Generation, only Vice President continued to be used. |
Clan Leaders and Presidents possessed absolute authority over the Clan. Elevation of a member to Leader could only be made by existing Leaders. In the 1st Generation, this occurred several times, though it was generally accepted that ShadowSniper172 wielded ultimate authority.
The red, blue, and green wings remained as vestiges of Halo: 3 UN, before the clan had formal branches and instead was divided into Alpha (red), Bravo (blue), and Charlie (forest green) battalions, with each Leader overseeing each. Other secondary colors have been adopted from time-to-time as well, such as the white wings on occasion by General JB172 as President, as well as the yellow/gold wings by DeDoubleU. A precedent was established in 6th Generation that "Leaders" (although referred to as Generals at that point) would adopt the wing color of the branch they Commanded; however, this precedent ceased in the 8th Generation. As they were originally ShadowSniper172's, the red wings are seen as the best designator of UN leadership. Following the resignation of ShadowSniper172, General JB172 amended how the leadership system worked, converting the Leader position to "UN President" and thus ruling out any potential for joint-leadership. This remained the precedent until the 8th Generation, when iSlayer renamed the position "Prime General." The Clan reverted back to the precedent upon Vash of Reach assuming the Presidency in the 9th Generation. |
The General ranks were rarely used in the UN, almost exclusively being utilized on Halo: 3, where they led squads. The original General emblems have never been seen since the 1st Generation, though in 4th Generation a "General-in-Chief" position was created; furthermore, in 6th Generation, a decision was latterly made that all branch leaders would be promoted to Generals, though the Clan Leader dreamcatcher emblem was utilized for this role, with the wings taking the color of the holder's branch. In 8th Generation, "President" was rebranded as "Prime General", while "GiC" was rebranded "General-Commander", though this precedent was not continued subsequently.
